Default Conventional v. Synthetic oil

I recently read an article in MM&FF that recommended switching to synthetic oil. I have always used conventional and changed my oil every 3,000 miles. Is it really that beneficial to change to synthetic? My engine has about 90,000 miles. What do you use in your 5.0?

i get synthetic blend because on an old engine the synthetic oil can remove some of the grunge and crap in the engine and cause it to start leaking

I use synthetic and recently even used one that says it is rated for 15k miles. I am planning on doing an oil change at 5k and sending some it to get it analyzed to see if it needed to be changed. I'll post here when I know but it will be a little while.
