I would really encourage the use of jack stands, unless you like dying. And an emergency jack probably won't lift the car high enough to get jack stands under there.

and if you have to ask whether or not you could use just an emergency jack, I'm not sure you should be attempting any work on your car by yourself.

do not use ur emergency jack., better yet, no offense but just let a buddy do it(who is experienced), or pay a shop. no need to get hurt.

we may have all started somewhere... but Ive NEVER used an emergency jack to do work on my car.... the only time I have even ever used one, was on my buddy's integra. It was too low to get my floor jack under
