New Alternator

Hey, im getting ready to get a new alt. for my 94. What size is the stock one? i believe it is a 130amp. Is a 200amp over kill for my car? And if i got a 130 would it do anything for me? Right now when my sterio is going the charge sits and bounces around. Also when i deleted my smog i had to go get a new belt, well the bet is kind of short so i didnt put it under the idler pulley between the alt. and power steering. and now the belt sqeeks when i start the car and when the heat or a/c is on and the battery charge goes way down.

The belt is slipping, you need to run it through the tensioner.

+1 on routing your belt properly, get a bigger belt if you need too. what ohm rating is your amp set at, if you have an amp with the stereo. If it is a 1 ohm load or lower, that can really mess witrh your charging.

i have no idea what ohm setting it is at. the belt is on the tensioner, but its not on the idler pulley. if it stays like this for a lil bit longer will anything get messed up?

I need a new alterrnator to. My idle surges up and down only in drive , my lights dim inside and out and my volt meter shots up and down and the cheapest alternator I could fine was like $160[:@]

You need to get the correct size belt as soon as you can. It's dangerous running around with the wrong sized belt.

im going to get the belt the 29th (when i get paid). so would a 200 amp be to much for my car or would it be fine.

Not to question you here but the sn-95 alt is probably one of the best peices of equipment ford decided to put on our cars, why are you upgrading?

If its because of a sub, or aftermarket sound system of sorts, get a capasitor please... You dont know how many people ive seen come into my work complaining that they destroyed their alt by running amplified soundsystems without capasitors...

And as far as the belt goes go get a new one and use the tensioner... If ford could have routed the belt without the tensioner they wouldn't have put it on there... think about it ;)

i completely forgot about a cap. that would make it alot cheaper. I was kind of forced to use the belt that is on it. i deleted the smog pump and had to get the car to the exhaust shop to get everything welded up before I had to go to work the next day.
