Default What is the minimum you need to get a car running?

In an effort to build a good looking, reliable, easily fixable car I began to wonder what are the minimum main components needed to get a car running on a carb setup.I am mainlyasking in regards tothe engine bay. I personally love simplicity. When I pop the hood, I love to see thingsthat are there for a purposewith nothing being over engineered. Perhaps I should say, I love being able to see a huge engine and the ground on either side of it. So my question is, what alldo you have to have to get a car running. For example, engine, alternator, radiator, battery, ....?

I would love to hear some input as I am planning on removing everything from the engine bay of my car and begin a little restoration. I have an 88 gt hatchback, with plans of going with a built 408 carb setup. Any and all input is appreciated.

Yep, Ford has a nasty habit of spending billions of dollars designing, fabricating, and installing crap that is just plain useless.

What is it specifically that you want to remove?
Most often guys complain about the 'look' of emissions stuff.
The engine is supposed to FUNCTION, not look pretty.

just my opinion though,

Well, it will free up some space having a carb instead ofefi. Alot less computer crap at least. Itwould probably also help if you had manual steering and no air conditioning [&:].

Basically I am redoing the whole car and planning to put in a built 408 carb'd and tko600 trans. I would like to keep A/C. Just wondering what else I need/what I can do to keep the engine bay looking clean and uncluttered.

all you need is compression, fuel, and spark, and that is all obtained without emission crap, hell you never REALLY need a battery if you drive a manuel, anything not needed for the big three are unecessary
