yea a cai is really not needs... the maf is the part that u want... but it has to be tuned rite... stock intake is a cai setup only it has a silencer on it... loss the silncer and your good to do... some cai are fine... other blow.... many there for looks... to dress up the engine bay... i have a C & L and trust me there complete crap.... there so cheap... they dont even send u knew electronics... they have u use the only ones on a maf housing that is 21mm large... there engieneers are obviously stupid as hell... but my stock intake is broke so i bought it unknownly... it was a mistake to say the least... a junk yard would have been better... than a a K&N filter too

did you clean the maf while you had it apart? if you did it might be some of the power gain you are noticeing. oil bath filters like k&n's and such tend to leave a greasey residue on the maf element. i used to have a k&n cai on my 92 t-bird with the 5.0ho and i had to clean the maf atleast once a year. deffanitly would help out in smoothing the idle and crisper throttle response. i can see how it would help on a maf car due to turbulence and such but i dont think it would help on a speed density car that much or i would swap my home made cai back out for the factory box.

My MAF gets cleaned like every 2-3 weeks just because I'm **** like that lol. No, you probably won't see any gains from doings something like this on a SD car.

I have a fender mount cai and it surges maybe 50 to100 rpm at idle, mine is very straight and I currently have sd. no problrmd for me. The car pulls greaat as far as I am concerned. Must just be certain combos.
