Default oil pressure guage

89 5.0 mustang i recently put a new motor in and it has 348 miles on it. i noticed after i drive around for awhile my oil psi is fine but when i stop at a light the psi goes down to about the secound bar on the guage. any ideas

It's normal for it to drop at idle. You should check it w/ a mechanical gauge to be safe.

Its the stock guage. it just started to do it to maybe sending unit is going south?

replace the sender. they are cheap....if that dosent fix it test it with a mechanical gauge and hope for the best. sounds like an oil pump or oil pump pickup problem....but if the motors only got 348mi on it that shouldnt be the case

AVOID OIL problems! I just blew mine up because I didn't bolt my pump back tight enough, and ignored my gauge, thought it was a bad signal. I was WRONG! 2 blown con-rods later, but now I learned and have a 306 ready to fire up this weekend.

i had the same problem when i swapped engines... only my gauge would only go up when i was above 1500 RPMS... anytime i was below that it would go below the like it was off.... replaced it with autometer gauge and its fine...

Not cool to play with your cars blood presure, get an aftermarket guage with some numbers. That is the most annoying thing ford did with those dumb bar guages.
