5.0L (1979-1995) MustangTechnical discussions on 5.0 Liter Mustangs within. This does not include the 5.0 from the 2011 Mustang GT. That information is in the 2005-1011 section.
5.0 magazine just did an article with a old school build up and they got to about 500 hp with all the mods including a supercharger and they said the block was on borrowed time...oh and it was a stock block...
damn fullauto any secrets you want share on keeping it together?
It went through 1 stock shortblock in the 10.60 range with stock electronics. The ONLY way this thing stays together is the car is now equipped with a FAST sequential system tuned by Chris "Mud Duck" Derrick (a former SSO racer from the late '90s-early '00s). This thing would NEVER last with stock electronics.
137mph @ 3000lbs race weight = ~602rwhp
602rwhp through a C4 (~18% loss) = ~735hp
Borrowed time? Probably. But it's been 134+mph at least 20 passes and it's coming back out this spring.
im sorry but is that supposed to be alot? i know people who make 20 passes in a month easily...daily drivers too. i know a guy who's been making 550whp (on a mustang dyno known as the heartbreaker for it's low #'s compared to the local dynojet...so a bunch more) and runs mid 10's for 2 years now on a completely stock bottom. he's been trying to break it but it won't. that's fine i don't understand people who bother to forge a stock block. another buddy cracked a block with 380whp... i'm saying you're certainly the exception from the rule (as you know)...even though there has been many 9-10 sec passes made on stock blocks. there's been many more that crack way before that
