ATTN: 351 Guru's.... need help
ok, my 302 has had it, when it gets warm the oil press needle on the gauge drops off at idle and then picks back up when its it reved.... It also has a broken headbolt, so I found a 351 from an 83 f150 that is carbed and I am gonna rebuild it (maybe a 408, havent decided yet), get a lightning lower intake manifold so I can still use my cobra upper intake, swap it over to fuel injected, put some RHS Pro Action 200cc heads on it, and possibly run nitrous on it.
Here are my questions... If I swap over to EFI, I should still be able to run my A9L ECU on this right? I know how to calculate Fuel Injectors, I have #24 right now with a C&L MAF and that is only good top around 350 HP right? I want 400-425 so 30# should do the trick right? I know this isnt a roller motor, Does anyone make a retro fit roller cam setup for this motor? If so, where do I find it? <--- Info that is needed the most I know about the oil pan and pickup tube, and I am gonna swap to aAJE Racingk-member too, but is there anything else I am forgeting? |

200cc RHS's are good for a 351W ......... just ordered some myself.
for a 408W you will need the 215 RHS's or AFR 205's and it will make over 500hp or 400rwhp You can use you A9L computer with an SCT tune, but might take some time and head scratching to get it just right. I'm about to go with the AEM plug n play system myself, after all the back and forth dyno tune sessions getting everything just right wish I had gotten one to start with. You can use roller cams if you get the $400-500 linked covnersion roller lifters. my 351W runs ok on 24's but gets real lean at upper rpms 30-36's would be good. you need couple of other small things for swap like new flywheel and spacer for crank pulley to line up and a/c - p/s bracket and 351 dizzy and lifted hood for clearance ( took a 4" to clear my Trickflow EFI intake ) |

It will controll the boost level for my turbo thats about to go on Data log Download predone tune maps from other users on their web site. dual rev limiters acceleration controlled traction control. more and more very nice system that plugs right into factory harness, sky is the limit on adjustable parameters. |

How many aux outputs does it have ??????????? AEM has 16!!!!!! Will it control boost???????? Will it control nitrous????????? Soft cut rev limter????????? Knock sensor provision???????? Will it auto fuel map with wide band O2's????? You're wack, AEM does twice as much and is twice as expandable to control all kinds systems from a/c and fan to boost or nitrous with all kinds of triggers from TPS to rpm's Yes, it cost a lot but its not some do it youself Hobby kit either. i'd run a solid set-up...mega squirt is very good...i chose pms for my personal taste reasons...mega is 400 bucks cheaper than mine,but it's what you like i guess

I want to run a roller set up for many different reasons... Less internal friction = more external power, plus a roller cam allows you to run stiffer valve springs for higher lift cams. Not to mention a roller motor can rev higher safely. But I can grab this 83 motor so cheap ($150),But on the other handI found a reman 351 roller motor shortblock thats 3 hours away from my doorstep, but it has Keith Black Silvolite pistons in it and I heard those are crappy and cheaperthan hyper pistons... This motor is a complete shortblock for $899 so I dont exactly know what todo.

The wilder the cam and the larger the injectors, the more likely you are to need a tune. I ran my 408w on 30's for a while. The 30's were ok until I shortened the PW to only fire when only the intake was open. 36 would work well. There are 2 options for getting hyd rollers in your block. 1) A reduced base circle cam 2) A set of 351w conversion hyd roller lifters. Option 2 is greatly preferred as the reduced base cams can introduce some valve train issues. The conversion (link bar) lifters are $475 from Crane. The block has to machined for roller lifters or you have to buy and Expensive roller lifter set up... You can but its cheaper to get a block thats made for roller lifters.

You need to read up on how yourEEC works. It doesn't "control"the A/C, but rather itcan disable the A/C ifneed be, Oh,I can do this with Megasquirt also, from any parameterI choose. By the way, my EEC Adaptor board works with ANY EMS, not just Megasquirt. Megasquirt is universal, you can run it in your Lawnmower, or in your Ferrari, in fact Megasquirt has been used in both, Yes even Mustangs with V8, V6 or 4cyl.It's not specifically designed to work with your Ford, that's part of what the adaptor board does.I have a Megasquirt based single box Ford PNP system coming out soon, but probably won't be available until around the end of summer.
