Default Rebuild help

I think Im going to rebuild my new explorerengine that im getting this weekend besidesjust porting the heads and add a new cam to the explorer motor since the engine has been sitting and im not in a hurry to build this engine anyways. My question is do you guys have any websites or books that will show me step by step how to rebuild the shortblock and how to rebuild and assemble the heads also. i want the do all the work myself except the hot tanking, honeing of the block, turning the crank, and hot tanking of the heads. i do all the workon my car myself and I have anyways wanted to do a whole motor myself and to also cut some of the costs down onthis budget build. I hoping to be one of the guys with a 300 rwhp explorer motor.

Build Details:
99 explorer engine (getting engine for $650)
ported and polished gt40p heads done by me
Upgraded Springs
1.7 Cobra Roller Rocker
Polished and undercut Valves 1.85/1.54
Gasket Matched Intake and Exhaust Ports
Ported explorer intake done by me
24lb injectors
70mm tb
76mm C&L MAF
Fenderwell intake tube
Custom Cam done by Jay
Billet timing chain
Long Tube headers
Underdrive pullies
Windage Tray

The engine only has 65,000 miles on it but it has been sitting and Im going to be building this engine so i decided to rebuild the whole thing and have a brand new engine in the car and running for $3000. Everything will be done by me.

you'll have to send the block, crank, rods, and heads out for machining - unless you want to spend 100k on the equipment

any hayes / chilton will show you how to do pretty much everything, and there are other books which are probably available from the local auto parts store that are even better.

You only need the machine shop if the crank needs turning, block needs boring, or you need pistons pressed on the rods. Ifthe block is ok and all you are going to do is ring andbearing it go for it. The heads on the other hand should be taken somewhere for machining. I would get to carried away trying to port them. You can knock thecasting slag out but don't try to reshape the port or anything. You could hurt as much as help. Send them off to get done if you want to get serious. Other wise take them to a reputable shop and get a real good performance valve job done after you knock the slag out of them.

thats all I plan on doning to the heads is just clean them up. As far as the block yeah I just want to rebuild the shortblock and not have someone else do it and cost me another $500 more to do it themselves.

Is there any particular website or books you guys use to tell you how to rebuild the shortblock
