Default differential question

How do find out what gears i have in my car isnt there a way you can count the drive shaft turns or somthing, i was reading it on an past post

ok thats a confusing question but... lift the rear end... turn the wheels, and count how many times the driveshaft turns...

...What he means is lift the car, mark a spot on your tire and your drive shaft.... then turn the tire one full revolution and count the revolutions the driveshaft makes... For example, if you turn your tire once and your drive shaft turns about 3 3/4 turns, you have 3.73's... etc etc

most acurate way is too take cover off,count the ring gears teeth ,and pinion teeth and divide and thats the gear ratio

You can do that too, and more than likely it will be stamped into the ring gear if it has a good grade ring and pinion in it... If you didn't want to pull the cover, the other way would be much quicker, but it would be a good time to go ahead and change the fluid in the rear end....
