Default Harmonic Balancer 28oz on a foxbody?

I am wanting to put a 28oz balancer on my 86' GT. But am wondering what the difference is between the old balancers for the pony car and the one I am wanting. Anyone know more about what balancer will fit what?

pre 1981 blocks use 50oz dampners and 1981-later use a 28oz or vice versa thats the only difference.

When looking up some balancers they said that a spacer was needed for their 28oz balancer. But I didnt know if that was just how they designed theirs or what. Or if I could put an OEM 28oz one on my car and still have all of the pully's line up and stuff.

what year block/crank do you have? if its not an old block you need the 50oz balancer and flywheel/flexplate. i hope you know you cant mix and match the two!!

You mean you cant swap the stock for stock. I have an 88'. But I know you can put a 28oz on the stock crank. If you think you cant, FYI you can. You can put lighter balancers on many other types of cars with out changing the flywheel.

I also have a 1986 GT and I'm building a 347 stroker and I recently bought the stroker kit, but it did not, however, come with the 28 oz balancer that is needed. What my plan of action to do is to take the flywheel and have the back machined to take stock out and therefore get it to the 28 ounces that I need. Just thought that perhaps this might give you some ideas to save some money.

Also, got any links for where the balancers where listed?
