Default new heads

i made a post a few days ago about needing a new headgasket cause i didnt have compression in cylinder #3. i finally took it to the mech and he says he thinks its an exhaust valve cause he blew air into it and it came out through the tail pipes. i thought this could be my chance to make my first real upgrade to the motor. i dont want rebuilt stock heads so im getting a small loan for new AFR 165's since most ppl say they are the best out of the box.

my question is this. the engine is stock so what will i need to have him put these heads in? i know a new intake manifold and cam would improve performance but i cant afford that all at the same time, i just want the car to run well with the new heads. i was told by a friend that i would need taller valve covers but is there anything else that i would really need to be able to use the car?

thanks guys

scan ebay get parts cheap afr are nice but with a stock motor and no money for anything else its kinda a waste.
I just pulled 2 stock heads off my mustang and put on gt40p's.
If you just wanna put stock heads back on you pay shiping there yours free!!!85,000 miles nothing wrong with them
unless you live in virginia then you can slid by and pick them up....
I piad 299 for gt40p heads 175 for my edelbrock intake and 120 bucks for the cam to my door ebay baby
thatsabout half of what your going topay for those afr's.

even with stock cam and intakes he'll see nice gains and have the most expensive part of a build outta the way. you WILL need rocker arms, and hardened pushrods - crane energizers are nice rollers, and you can go with 1.7 ratio to get a little extra out of that stock cam.

You know... I would say buy a cam with it, they aren't that expensive. ($160) http://store.summitracing.com/partde...p;autoview=sku It will be a less pain in the butt to do it with no heads on, and the top of the motor ripped off than it will be to do it later down the road... The intake manifold though, you can definitely wait on, since its on top and you don't need to tear everything down to get to. I would really considerpicking a cam and adding that to your purchase. Not sure but you may need to have hardened pushrods also... which are around $100 for the set.

i know didly squat about cams, if i were to put one in i wouldnt want something crazy-track aggressive. its a dd that i run occasionally so is the one u linked me to something like that?. as far as the loan i need the car running again ASAP cause it gets me to work and school and i dont want to pay for installation twice, get it all done now.

Yea, the TFS Stage one cam is very streetable(the one I linked you to). I have it in my car right now and I love it. It's not super aggresive, but does have a nice lumpy-type idle sound to it.

165s are good heads, just by them selve will be a very big diff...a cam to go with it is better, and a intake will be needed ...stock intake andaftermarket heads = heads that dont suck the air they want too...

i had 165s and now i have edelbrock rpms...i havent notic any diff in 165s perf over the edelbrocks.... but afrs are good...
