1984 mustang gt HO four barrel original car

I have got a 84' GT HO with a four barrel and everything is original, one owner. I have searched the net for this car and all i have turned up is that ford didn't make this car they only made a few prototypes and they had problems. Seems ford waited till 85' to introduce the HO motor, but i have this car and cant find anything on it. i have called numerous places and dealerships and they tell me nothing of any use. i am just looking for some feed back .

man i think the 84 4v engine was rated at 175 hp, up from 157 of the 2v engine before it. then in 85 the ho 4v went to 210 hp, before the first fuel injected engine appeared in the 86 gt's with 10 less hp at 200. (typical ford move)

its an H.O. i have an 84 as well the difference between 84 and 85 was 84 is a flat tappet cam and 85 was roller what exactly are you looking for with the car? and if i recall correctly 83 was the same thing as 84 motor wise still a 4v h.o. i dont know why the dealers are telling you they cant help you out with any info. i do know most stuff on our cars they wont have its all discontinued

i think he's trying to figure out how rare it is..... probably not too many unmolested ones left. FYI if it has the aluminum ford intake, those runners are WAY smaller than the ports on the heads - even a lowly edelbrock performer would add serious power to that thing. i'd save the original intake though - always keep your original parts if you wanna return to original later.

My first was an 1983......Love those 82-84 GT's......I did some mods to mine....it ran 13's...HANG ON TO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep original parts. I had mine back in the day. Pulled headers and a rear from a wrecked 86. True duals, gears, intake and carb....Ran nice and looked good. Good Luck with it Bro!!

I have the same thing. Black 84 GT 4V hatchback. I ran into the same problem. Just take comfort in the fact that we have what seems to be a very rare find. I bought mine from a Ford mechanic that came down with M.S. and could no longer turn a wrench much less drive a standard. It was in great shape, but had been sitting for a number of years. I had to jerk the engine and change the rear main, but other than that I didn't HAVE to do anything to it. It still has 63000 miles on it. Now, that being said, I did feel the compelling need to make some changes. I added Flowtech full length headers, Ford Racing smog pump elliminator pulley, cluthc cable quadrant and adjuster, double hump trans mount, hi-flow water pump, silicon hoses, and aluminum radiator, a Proform electric fan, a Zoom clutch kit, MSD cap, wires & rotor, BBK competition springs, subframe connectors, a new Holley 4160 and 93 Cobra wheels (because it still had the original TRX wheels and the FACTORY tires on it!!) It has been a blast since day one. I took it out tothe local TireRack here in South Bend, Indiana, and ran it on a Mustangs only autocross day, and was only a second and some change off the pace set by those high dollar Roush, Steeda, Coddington, what have you ponies that were out there. THAT WAS BONE STOCK. Now that I have made some changes I will do my best to dethrone the king this next go 'round. :)

I had a problem getting the front springs in, and had to order an internal (Plate style) spring compressor to make them fit. So be prepared for that if you plan on making any changes in that area. Other than that, all of the mods I made were true bolt on's.

Best of luck with your pony.
Mike

yeah they are metric i really didnt like the way they looked. i have ten holes on mine and im sorry to say your 84 is not rare. yes they are hard to find in very nice condition but its not rare. i have the 20th anniversary GT350 and its rare but still not that rare its one of 2000

they may have had 10 less hp, but they had 15ft/lbs more torque.
