ok my buddygave mehis cam and I was thinking about installing it in my motor but was wondering if it would be any good? its a crane h272 2 36/41/04. I have no idea what cam isin my car right now I purchasedthe motor complete. it has trw forged flat top pistons. w/351 ported heads. also if I install this would I need the degree wheel or do I just match the timing marks. any input would be great cause I would like to start working on this tomorrow. thank you

RE: is this cam any good???
i show that cam as a flat tappet..... i dont think i would reuse that bump stick - of you wanna try you need the old lifters in order (you cannot mix and match them) or you'll need new lifters and hope you dont end up with a wiped out cam. still..... for the cost of a flat tappet cam i'd buy a new one.
heres the specs anyways...

would be a good grind for a streetable car - just if its used i'd be worried about using it. (if it was a roller it would be a different story)

if its been converted it has two holes tapped in the lifter valley to hold the rollers in place..... you cant use roller lifters with that cam though. according to the grind number you gave that cam is a flat tappet.
if its been converted to roller you have two choices, either use a roller cam and lifters - or use a flat tappet cam and lifters. the flat tappet will be 2-3 times cheaper to buy, but the roller will be more durable and more powerful.

what about a ford racing x-303 cam? I forgot i also have one of those sitting in my spare 351. I believe its a roller cam.also the block does not have holes tapped into it, it just has the rollers with a fork like thing holding the two together.

RE: is this cam any good???
when i install it do i need to use the degree wheel? the only reason im switching out the cams is because i have been trying to get this car running for about 5 months now. im getting spark plenty of fuel, tried every firing order ford has ever had, reversed the cap 180 and this thing will not fire up to save my life so the only thing i can think of is if the cam is out of time???? ive seriously had it with this thing i just want it to start. by the way i want to thank you for your help so far.

no, install the thing straight up.
theres only two firing orders,
1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 with 1-2-3-4 on the pass side and 5-6-7-8 on the drivers. The dist turns counterclockwise.
1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 with 1-2-3-4 on the pass side and 5-6-7-8 on the drivers. The dist turns counterclockwise.
watch the #1 valve springs as you turn the motor over (clockwise). when the intake valve opens, closes,
and then the pistons comes back up to TDC your where you need to be for #1 on the distributor
