I don't know what the difference is but I guess if you ask most people they'll say the A9L computer is the best.

Default RE: A9* question.

I have compared the 2 a little.

The A9P is used in auto cars and the A9L is used for manuals.

Rumor has had it that the A9P would advance the timing over the A9L. This was supposed to make the A9P a more 'performance' oriented option for a manual car.
The timing advantage of the A9P is so low in the rpm range that you will never see it during WOT in a manual car.

In other words...
If you have a manual, use whichever computer you have. There is no performance difference between the 2.
If you have an auto, then use the A9P as it will help the dead stop acceleration via timing advance.

There are other differences, but they are not significant.

Local parts stores are a good source, as most seem to sell reman'd units for less than $100.
Or look through the j/y's...

ive tried junkyards but to no avail. the yards where i am suck. and ive gotten two from Kragen Auto but looking at the actual computer it tells me nothing about it, no A9L or anything... need one badly but on a budget.

Most reman'd units are not 'coded' the way a factory computer is.

Order it for the application you desire...
Year, trans, engine
And you should get what you need (assuming the parts store doesn't screw up the order)

Don't convert to SD because you can't find a MAF computer...

If you want a MAF computer, get one for a 89-93 and you will be fine. Don't convert back to SD form MAF....

i have a 5 speed that had an A9P, i got an A9L to have the correct one and felt no difference. I would say for a stick either would work but an auto A9P is better
