i'm putting my engine together and have been reading all this on TTY bolts and can't figure out whether to just use my old rod bolts they are on my factory rods and they are factory rod bolts and what would happen if i reuse them.

in the long run you may want to just buy some arp bolts and then you won't have to worry about anything coming undone.

only the stock head bolts are torque to yield, not the rod bolts, but the rod bolts are usually the first to go, get some arp rod bolts and then you wont have to worry about it

yeah, seriously its the best $$$ you can spend on your motor. btw when you get new rod bolts you need to get yoru rods reconditioned cause the caps will not be in exactly the same position as they once were.

reusing rods is fine.

reusing rod bolts is scary, because the ford rods only used 5/16 bolts and thats the weakest point in the whole damn motor. you can drill them out and install 3/8 bolts like the chevys, but it takes too much metal out of the rod caps and actually weakens them too. the best bet is quality 5/16 replacement bolts.

reconditioning doesnt cost that much at all, and it will ensure the big ends of the rods are a proper circle and nothing is twisted.
