I bought my 90 lx hatch 5.0 5spd with that problem for 2000 bucks and it has 47k original mi on it and it maches the carfax report so with 47k on the motor I questioned wether the motor was realy blown because it was noiser than hell when I started it up so I trailerd it home and pulled the oil filter and it was dry as a bone so next I pulled the distributor and found out that the oil pump driveshaft looked like a red liquorish all twisted up so that ment that the oil pan was coming off to replace the oil pump. droped the oil pan and checked it for any shiney stuff that didnt belong and I didnt find anything so 35 bucks and a days laborlator I find my self driving it every day so long story short just check some of the things I rambled on to long about and youl solve your problem

you could also pull the distributor cap off, take valve covers off and turn the car over and if the rockers prime up you will know the pump is working then you can check the gauge.

Twisted/broken shafts are bad.

Not mine, thankfully

Try putting a Mechanical oil pressure gauge to make sure it is not just the gauge. I am not sure if the previous owner of my car changed things so it was easy, but I just took the electric sensor off and hooked the new gauge in. Good luck and I hope your problem is as easy as mine was.
