Default Fox Body Project help

Okay heres the deal, I really want to build up a fox body LX to run at the the drag strip, but I am not sure where i should start. There is a friend of my dad's who is selling a 4cyl. LX notch that has an 8.8 rear end with 4.10 rear gears, a T5 transmission and i think a computer that is ready for a V8 swap, but it still has the 2.3L engine in it. Its a '93, but my question is, would it be easier and less expensiveto just start out with an original 5.0 or put one in this?? I am asking this because he only wants $1,000 for it and its not in bad shape at all... its just that I dont know if its gonna end up bein more of a pain in the *** for me since I have never done an engine swap...Any help would be appreciated, and keep in mind that this car probably will never be used as a driver, just a bracket racer. Thanks.

It depends on your budget. If you were on a a budget I would do this...

351W
HCI
C4
Huge Stall
100+ Shot of Nitrous
4.10-4.56's

Sh*t would be sweet

Id say if your going to spend $100 on a 4 cyl. go spend a bit more for a 5.0

If the car is in good shape, body, paint, interior. I would do it. Already has an 8.8 and a t-5, just get/build an engine and drop it in.

give me a choice between 2 foxbodies in similar condition, one with an 4 andone with an 8 cyl, i'll pay more for the 4 cyl because even if it was beat on the chassis has had much less stress

i'd go for it, but thats me

Buy the 4 banger notch and change out the head gasket and piece out a turbo kit. That would different and fun but thats just me. Just a different opinion from every one else.

i never really thought about the condition of the chassis...hmm,the more i think about it I might buy it just cuz foxes are so expensive and hard to find around here...and it would definitely get a 302 in it..probably bored and stroked. I wanna wait til i get another fox for road racing and then put the engine from this project into it and then get a 351 for the strip car. Is 1000 a good deal?? i might try to talk hium down a little for fun

+1 on that.. most v8 mustangs have been abused, motor, body, etc.(weekend warrior car)
id buy it, like you said it allready has an 8.8.. and a t5.
ok here ya go... go price a junk yard t5 and see how much they are.
you could buy the car, sell the t5, and get half your money back, if you want to put an auto in it..if you can find someone who needs a t5.
ive never built a 5.0 mustang, always tried to find a nice 2.3 car for a transplant.
id say your money ahead to buy it.

I would buy it just because it is a notch and for the 8.8 rear and 4.10 gears.
