Default RE: sluggish throttle

I have a brand new idle control valve on my stang. My stang is an 88 auto. I took my car and put it in my garage to see if I could figure out what it was. When I had it running I punched it manually under the hood and it seemed like their was almost a popping noise coming from the front of the engine but I couldn't pinpoint it. This may sound stupid but could the upper manifold gasket that I bought be defective in some way because it almost sounds like I'm losing vaccum?!? Thanks for your help guys

yes gaskets can be defective. are you sure it didn't slip out of place when you installed the upper intake piece? only way to tell is get a vacuum gauge and install it where you can see it while driving and then test drive it. it is normal for the vacuum to drop drastically when you fast open the throttle and be at it's lowest value at WOT, but check it at idle, it should be high and steady, like 15-18" Hg or better with a stock cam. if it ain't this high, then you must have big leak somewhere. you say you changed the injectors, did you go bigger? if so, did you get the MAF recalibrated for them? do you have a adjustable fuel pressure regulator? if yes, did you adjust the pressure after changing the injectors? need more info about your setup to tell you any more.

Thankyou for getting back to me roundman. When I changed the injectors I used the stock 19# ones and when I put the upper manifold gasket back on I used some alignment studs to make sure it wasn't going on crooked. Also I replaced the fuel regulator with a new stock one--unadjustable-- for now until I can afford it. I hope this helps and thankyou again roundman I always look forward to what you have to say whether it's my question or someone elses because you make alot of sense and IMO are a very smart guy!!
