Removed Smog pump Car running rich!!

We removed the smog pump on my friends 88 GT and relocated his Enginge Coolant Sensor (ECT) to the back of the motor. Ever since we did this he's been blowing black smoke out the back of the motor which indicates he's running rich. Would you guys agree that the problem is with the used ECT we picked up from the junkyard since my friend cracked the original in half trying to remove it, or do you think it's something else? I appreciate any and all help thanks.

Where the hell did your relocate the ECT to? Why did you do that? I'll bet it's running rich because you moved the ECT, that sensor plays a big role in determining your AFR.

i agree with 92hatch, it's most likely the ECT i donno where u put it but thats was prolly a bad idea... why did u move it anyway

We moved it because thats were it is on my 93 Lx. And my 93 Runs perfect. It's not so much the location im worried about its the sensor itself i think it's shot. i was just wonderin if you guys thought there was another problem.

PULL THE CODES

That will give a good indicator of whether or not the sensor is bad.

Where is the ECT currently located?
Factory location is in the heater tube near the front pass. side of the lower intake.

First thing to do is pull the codes though....

Did you unplug the MAP senser? That will cause it to run rich too.
