how tell if crankshaft is going to hell
 

ok ive got a very very bad vibrations from engine and some people on this forum have said it could be my crankshaft going to hell, how could i tell if it is going to hell. besides removing the motor and looking. is there any tests any sensors anything, i know this is probably a dumb question.

99% of the time its the stock harmonic balancer thats the problem with engine vibration. You will know instantly if the snout of the crank is cracked, thats where they break 95% of the time since its the unsupported area.

I think if you get it up to about 3k rpms and let off there is a way to tell. Maybe it vibrates, sorry, don't know.

I doubt its your crankshaft, most likely your balancer.. Do a visual inspection on your balancer to make sure its not all cracked apart.

your balancer very well may have spun, in which case you may not be able to tell from looking - but if you threw a timing light on it you'd see it wouldnt be lining up anywhere near the marks that it should be.

so Im not trying to jack this thread but what are some other things that the car would be doing if the harmonic balancer was messed up?

Could that effect how the car runs?

HARMONIC balancer balances ur motor thats what it does. when its broken now ur motor is unbalanced causing a vibration

the crank bearings will take a crap before the crank itself.

depending on the driver.

Just vibrates. Doesn't mess with air, fuel, or spark
