check engine
i know the check engine light can mean a ton of things and i know my car is OBD 1 so like noone can hook up to it, so how am i supposed to know what the check engine light is coming on for? It just started tonight as i came home from work. every time it upshifted (AOD) the light came on for a second, then went back off as the rpms went up. I was wondering if anyone else has had this same thing happen and knows what it might be, or how i can figure it out myself. I know some cars you can use a jumper wire or mopar you can turn the key 3 times, but havnt heard a trick like that for fords.
the only thing i could think it was right now is like a rich or lean reading because its just shifting so the engine is a low rpms in a higher gear and maybe the car is compensating enough. I also know i need to replace the fuel filter, so i was thinking it may be a fuel related problem. Any help is appreciated. :D |

RE: check engine
All you need is a test light, VOM or use the CEL to count the codes....... TroubleCodes.net- engine & OBD2 Trouble Codes and Technical info & Tool Store.

RE: check engine
ok i looked at that site on the whole checking engine codes, but i can make sense of it. it doesnt say anything about the 5.0, nor does it say where this hand drawn connector is located. a little better explanation would be appreciated. thanks.

RE: check engine
the connector on your car "should" be under the hood, drivers side between firewall and the strut tower and u can get an obd 1 tester for cheap from auto zone or any other parts store....

RE: check engine
autozone will pull your codes then walk back pick up a haynes book and write down what it is or you could post them here and someone will to=ell you what they are
|
RE: check engine
sigh... autozone doesn't sell anything capable nor do they test OBD 1
|
RE: check engine
yeah OBD 1 is outdated, and i know autozone does not check it. I will try to find the connector and pull my codes this weekend and see whats up. thanks.

RE: check engine
autozone does have an OBD 1 tester, its $30 or you can buy the one that is for OBD I and II for 379.00
