Check out the stickies up top. Click "Tech Articles". Than click "5.0 First Mods List". That right there will give you a good start. For headers, there are a few brands you can go with. For bolt on street cars BBK seems to be the popular brand. You can order them from summitracing.com or Im sure one of our site sponsors might have them.
As for the CAI, ehhhhhh not really worth the $$$ IMO. If you want it because it looks good than go for it but if you are buying it to see a power increase I would look elsewhere. By removing the stock air silencer and putting in a K&N filter you will see almost the same power gains. An aftermarket one might get you a few extra hp but would you pay $150 for 2 hp? I know I wouldnt... Instead of buying a CAI maybe look into getting a set of aluminum underdrive pulleys. Not huge gains but its something.
Good Luck!

RE: Need Help...1989 Virgin 5.0
go ahead and BBK Longtube headers
get the C&L - MAF and TrueFlow tube cold air kit.
it uses stock air box with air silencer removed and is best bang for the buck.
I had one and loved it.

RE: Need Help...1989 Virgin 5.0
I have an '86 motor. I deleted the power steering, a/c, and the smog pump. I have 40 series flowmaster mufflers, 3.73 gears, a C-6 3 speed tranny, and a CAI. I also mildly ported the lower intake and the throttle body. I run 13.9's in the 1/4 mile. Just some help.
