Installing Water Pump

Installing Water Pump
I just permatexed (ultra blue) my new water pump how long do I have to wait before I start it? I already put coolant in and it was leaking from the waterpump. Do I have to now take it back off and redo the gasket glue or do I just wait for it to dry and then put in the coolant again.

RE: Installing Water Pump
When you took the old pump off, did you remove ALL traces of the old gasket? You may have simply missed a spot or the bolts arent quite tight enough.
I have to ask, you did use a gasket along with the permatex? If not you may have squeezed all/most of the sealer out. The gasket is thicker and will conform better to any surface irregularities.
If it were my Stang, id take it back off and check things out.. If its leaking now itll likely be leaking later once cured.

I did my best to remove the old gasket.yes I used the gasket with the permatex. But I think the antifreeze that I put in right after might of eaten the not dry permatex. So looks like I will have to take it back off agggggg

RE: Installing Water Pump
I used some permatex water proof high tack, hot heat on my tstat and I did not have a problem. Your suppose to let the sealent set up for a little bit before you put it back together, I'd say 15 or 20 minutes, then you won't squeeze it all out when you tighten it all back up. This works for me. The stuff adder was talking about sounds very close to what I used.
