quarter window moulding cover
Hello,I just recently became the proud new owner of a 89 LX 5.0. I got a fair deal on the car and I love it. Just afew things I need to fix to be happy for the time being. The exterior is nice, but the rubber around the rear quarter windows is making the car look wayyy old because its all dry rotted and lookin rough. I bought some plastic covers from texas mustang .com and the directions say to paint them, then using the adhesive provided, glue the plasic moulding over the existing rubber. All sounds good, until I read that your supposed to duct tape the covers to the carfor 24 hours! Im thinking that its going to take off thespray paint on thecovers, and leave residue on the paint of the car. Just wondering if anyone has done this, and if I would be able to use painters tape, or masking tape. I appreciate any help, thanks

the duct tape is probably just to hold it in place, so painters tape should be fine as long as it holds. my quarters are also kinda pitted on one side so let me know how it looks after and take some pics

paint em..let em dry...put a small piece of painters masking tape over the fresh dry paint....then apply your duct tape over that...that way you should minimize any paint peeling.

Personally, I would take the windows out sand em and paint em up. The covers stick out to far and look goofy imo.
What am I saying, I would buy the damn things! They are only 300 for replacements that dont say mustang....even cleaner

thanks. Im gonna go for it. No one thinks that the duct tape will leave residue on my car? I was thinking of waxing the car first, but that might keep the tape from holding as well.
