Default Fuel Pump Spliced Wires?

Hello,

Just threw in a Walbro 255lph Fuel pump...

I had to splice the wires using the supplied wire connectors...How do these exposed wires not blow up?!?

I know that if there is a solid connection, there should be no spark. But knowing that those wires are exposed in a tank full of GAS makes me a little nervous. Any comments??

You should of put heat shrink tubing over them. I hope you didn't leave a hot wire exposed to a grounded gas tank? That could be a major disaster.

The kit came with a set of "butt splice" connectors...

Here is a pic:

I crimped it down good...and placed some electrical tape over it. Then I ziptied the wires to the bracket so they would never come disconnected....

What do you think?

I think that tape is not going to last submerged in gas!!! Other than that, as long as the wires are shielded you'll be fine!! My replacement pump had the same connector so I didn't have to cut the harness.

Are people really that afraid to soder(spelling)? I never use those quick connect pieces, some hold, some disconnect for no reason. Soder will hold it together and not come apart, with some heat shrink tubing it will make an almost weather tight seal except when fully submerged.

The stock setup still had exposed metal at the end of each wire...and that is OK...

From the research that I have been doing...I think that everything is OK

It is crazy that those wires are in the tank like that...
