starter problem with pics!

^ he hit the nail on the head there. You need to shim it. What happens is the gear is gettin pushed out too far by the solenoid, and when power is taken away and it retracts, the gear is caught on the flywheel still. Just get some small washers and add one to each bolt until it stops. Starters are easy as hell to pop the 2 bolts outta.

Have you done it to yours? If so, how many washers did it take and what size? I know all are different, but I just want a ballpark figure so I dont have to take the starter out anymore than I have to
fortunately, my mini is OEM, and fits perfectly....and I dont have the index plate in at all. I'd start with some really skinny ones honestly, like 1/16ths
Ya I had a motorcraft one that came in my car...but I fried it while replacing the starter selenoid so I bought a mini from checker and the damn thing has ground on startup ever since. I even took it back to them and they said evrything was fine...well obviously its not since it grinds dammit!
