Default Lost a frakin' wheel

I was driving down to my grandmothers house, and I started feeling a vibration when I let off the throttle. Eventually, it got so bad it sounded like I had a Jake Brake. I figured it was the bad U-joint so I tried to keep it from vibrating. I was just hoping that I could make it there without throwing the driveshaft. Then out of nowhere, my damned right rear flew off. It sheared all four studs, and I lost my brake drum, hub, brake line, shoes and springs. All I had left was the axle flange with the broken studs in it. Any idea what caused this? The lugs were tight. The only thing I can think of is the spacer that was behind the rim.

No, the drum flew off. I was in the interstate doing 70. The rear end dropped so far I thought I lost my whole rear end. The exhaust hit and punched a hole in my rear bumper... that wasn't cool

No, I didn't think to get pics of it... I should have. I didn't have any of my tools there either, so I had to have it towed to the local garage, so the towns only mechanic could fix it. It only cost me $400 though.

No I didn't have extented studs... I'd say it was a 1/4" spacer. It's what was on it when I bought the car.

She's already back up and running. I ended up driving it home yesterday. I wasn't too worried about the car at that point, I was more worried about the fact that my wife was following me. Luckily, the wheel went straight to the guard rail, and stayed there until it rolled to a stop, and I was on a straight stretch of road which helped me to keep control of the car. I got lucky!
