I just installed a whole new top end, look at signature for parts. I am using a counterclockwise waterpump. I started the car in the morning and as I was on my way to town and the temp was at 180 (I am using a 180 degree thermo) Then in under 5 second the water temp went all the way to 265. I shut the car off and coasted for a 100 yards and then turned the car on while driving and the temp gauge went back down to 170. Do I have the wrong waterpump on or maybe a sticking thermo? And could my hole engine be in trouble getting it that hot?

Could have been an air bubble working it's way out of the colling system.

She still seems to be running good. I am installing a new thermostat tomorrow.
