351 w...best car to pull one from?
anyone have any opinions on which is the best to pull one from. If i get one i'm gonna stroke and hopefully run some serious hp so i would need something that can take an occasional beating. What other things would i need to adjust my car to the motor. I already have upgraded shocks + springs. I know that i would need a bigger oil pan (i think). anything else?

The best 351w to get is from a 69/70. Those have the heads that the GT40's were modeled after. Other than that, theyre all the same. So if you cant get a 69/70 it really doesnt matter what year. Im assuming that youre going to be putting all new internals in, if not stay away from late 70's because they had plastic coated timing gears that like to fail.
As for the oil pan I wouldnt worry about it until you start making some serious HP. A regular double hump oil pan will work just fine, unless you need more oil capacity. Then youll need to get a custom pan anyway.

5qrt pan is plenty with standard oil pump.
Like said earlier real old ones are slighlyt stronger
1994-98 were roller cam blocks.
I would look for a 94-98 truck or van with 351W in it, it should be a roller cam motor.
( F150, F250 or Econline cargo van )

Intake and motor mounts used will determin hood needed.
with stocks mounts and TrickFlow R intake with 3/8" intake spacer
I needed a 4" hood to clear front of intake.
some people have fit them under 2" or stock hoods with
some modifcation or running carb set-ups

Aye, late 90's f150s are a reall easy to come buy and pull from. Go for a roller itll make life a bit easyer for you, as far as getting the heads off a 74 or so, not worth it in my opinion. If your going to build a 351w realize its going to cost a nickle or two and do it right, get aftermarket heads and everything needed to build it up right...
Me and Vigcs got this block stripped down in about a hour in a junkyard but we ended up not pulling it due to lack of transportation.
