clogged cats?
I still have my original exhaust on my car and I'm pretty sure my cats are clogged...all 4 of them. By getting a full exhaust or just getting an O/R H-pipe get my times for the 1/4 mile down? By the way I ran a 15.5. I've been trying to think of reasons my car isn't running faster which I know it should. Any information would help. Thanks

RE: clogged cats?
slow times could be a lot of things. traction is a big one. i get bad times right now cause when i hit the gas, the rear slides all over the place. if the car is mechanically sound, id say its traction. try a tune up and see how your times change
as far as your cats being clogged, no. they are full of honey comb but thats how they are made. yes getting a full exhaust or even just the o/r h will help

I wouldnt expect your car to go much faster than that if its stock. Depends what kinda rear end gears you have.
Also, I did full exhaust on my car, and its not THAT big of a difference. Stock LX heads are crap, so you can do all the intake and exhaust you want, but the real weak point is the heads.
Oh, didnt see you had a GT. Change your rear end gears for some real time improvements.

there's no difference in the heads on 5.0's from the same model year in LX, GT, or Vert.
Ford had an emissions recall of the H-pipes on my '88, so you might be able to get a new one from Ford under this recall if it also applied to the '87 model years although it might be hard to find new ones for a model that old. they didn't send out letters on it, just changed out the pipe when my car was in one time for a tranny drain and filter change. if you don't need the cats to pass a test, I would say just get an off road H-pipe, you will like it!
btw, I running 13.50's with those crappy stock heads! LOL they can't be but so bad now can they?

you know what I say? SCREW CATS!!!!!! u dont need em. you do when it comes to inspections but i day ists worth ur $ to bus an h/x pipe w/o cats and become "best" friends with ur local inspector!!! hahaha. just think about it, ud gain a good 20-25 hp without the stupid cats and its gonna be loud and beautiful soundin- youll be amazed!!! if you want to be legal when inspection time comes around, put old h/x pipe back on-if you fix ur problem or simply buy a very cheap h/x pipe with either 2 or 4 cats- u can probably find one for $150 WITH CATS CHEPEST. thats not that bad though.
