Maybe it goes to a bolt for ground. Im only saying that because of the clip thats attached to the wire looks like it goes to a bolt or something on the frame/chassis.

yeah that would be cool. ive been having issues getting my car to start but load tested the battery and it was fine, so im wondering if this is something to do with that. and my alternator went out on me last nite too, by the way whats the easiest way to change my starter?i want to put my new one in now, i think the red one is factory oe, and thats too old for my peace of mind

To change the starter get a really long extension and go from the front of the motor its allot easier that way and of course using a lift is easier as well. lol

yeah mattdel its bright red.never seen one before figured it was cus it was oe. wondring why this wire is loose, my 93 has a similar wire and it goes to some silver looking tiny rectangular circuit breaker looking thing on the selenoid, but i also notice they aer wired diff on the selenoids. the previous owner did remove the ac but put it back on, its no where close to reaching the ac comp anyhow

yeah thats what i was thinking.
ive always changed them when a motor was out of the car all together and didnt have headers or exaust in the way, lol.
any ways i would think this wire is a ground however i see how it is on my 93 but its a 2.3l so i dont know. plus diff type of selenoid. so this might be 86 specific. i might only learn from someone who has a 86 5.0
