Default Backfiring in the intake manifold

i am pretty sure that is where it is coming from, i had a mechanic tell me that could be the problem, but he was a tranny specialist so imnot so sure of taking his word. but anyways the popping sound only happens when my engine is ice cold and i give it gas without letting the engine warm up fully, the engine fully warm only gets to be about 160-170 degrees max, even if im flooring it all day. when the engine is cold, i start by giving it gas and it is real realsluggish, i need to put my foot down a good distance before any power can be felt, and as soon as i get past 2000-2500rpm range it all of a sudden kicks in power. the popping noise only happens when i give it gas. any ideas? i bought the car used, it has 110,000 miles, flow master cat back, msd cap and rotor with ford motorsport 9mmwires (the cap/rotor and plugs and wires i had put on 2 days ago, the sound was happening before that) and a mac cold air intake. to finish it off. the engine never backfires or pops when it is warm. any ideas would be greatly appreciated. thanks

You might want to check your timing

my timing was at 8 degrees, and they advanced it to 12, stock is 10, and the noise was happening before that anyways....

Sounds to me like you got a sticky substance causing your lifters or valves to stick. As the engine gets hotter, it would make sense that the stuff would lose its sticky quality and free up the engine. Rather than constantly wasting your money trying to figure out what the problem is like i did, take it to a local mechanic and see what is the problem. Chances are its internal and needs a little bit of deconstruction to get to.
