Default just gears and what else...

Can I just buy 4.10 gears and take them to a shop and have them installed, or do i need other stuff?somone told me that you cant just put 4.10 because it requires a 4 series carrige, and that cost 800 bucks he said. So he said if I want gears the hightest I can get is 3.90 because its a 3 series carrige that is have. What is he talking about? cant I just buy the 4.10 gears and take them to a shop and have them installed with no problems

The guy's smokin dope, you don't need a different carrier for 4.10's ... you should get a different speedo gear to set your speedometer right though - might as well bring em some gear oil and friction modifier too

Like MD said the guy is on dope. I don't remember anything about carrier breaks on a 8.8. I'd get a new set of bearings and races. Your going to have the thing all apart, may as well freshen it all up.

I think he was talking about GM carriers, because my friend who has a 94 Z28 had to get a 3 series carrier to get from 2.73s to 3.73s. He must be a GM guy thinking he knows everything and everything that applies to GM MUST apply to Ford too.

When I did mine, I bought the gears, a Ratech Deluxe Rebuild kit, Traction-Loc rebuild kit, and fluids...

Like I said before...that story is BS
I would highly recommend buying a new trac-loc rebuild kit because yours is most likely shot or you'll be doing one wheel burnouts.....not good.
I bought the kit from Summit for $50. Also, get new axle seals too.

Jeeps also have carrier breaks.

Get a master install kit. It will have new bearings, races, shims and seals. Also a rebuild kit for the lim slip. Done.

well the 3.55's in my car were installed recently before I bought my car, so the trac-loc is newer, and the rear was recently rebuilt, so I think ill buy just gears.
