What heads and cam for an 86 GT?
Thanks to a bonus I wasn't expecting, I am ready to scrap the horrible 86 stock headsand get a cam and heads for the stang. I need some input on afew things.
Are the Trick Flow heads the only after market heads I can use without notching the pistons? (Remember, 86. Flat top pistons) What heads and cam to go with my Cobra intake and Vortech SC? I need to stay smog legal in CA. I want to keep the Cobra intake. Usage of the vehicle is street/strip. Drag races once in a while. Not a daily driver. I would like to do the work myself, but I won't try notching pistons, so if I went AFR heads and a custom grind cam (that was one recommendation I got) I would have it done at a shop (more expensive and not as much fun). Any input is appreciated. |

get a machine shop to notch them for you, not expensive

Stock cam is pretty good. put the twisted wedges on it.. and maybe some 1.7rr's to up the lift of the cam a little to get a lil more air in there. not posative if you will havepiston-to-valve clearence problems with the new larger valve size and the extra lift of the 1.7rr's... i know you can run them on E6 heads without a problem.
