Default trans question

how much does it cost to fix a transmission that its 2nd gear is out? what needs to be done to fix it and how will the trans hold up in the future? thanks

it all depends on what else is wrong with it when they crack it open. i had the same problem with mine they openned it up and all the syncros were on their way and needs a bunch of other stuff. your gunna pay like 1500 for a rebuild better off buying a new one its cheaper

$1500??? damn. i was thinking about buying another mustang but the 2nd gear on it is out so i'll probably have to get him to lower the price quite a bit. should i go for it or should i just look for another one?

thats true but how much for the installation? could it be driven without a 2nd gear for a couple hundred miles?

and you can do the trans youself in the driveway with a set of jack stands and a normal set of tools

i needed new syncros in mine and there is only one tranny shop were i live and the guy was trying to tell me the same thing of "well you never know until we open it" thing so i went to auto zone and got a rebuilt for $839 but mine is for a carbed '84 setup, but the wc t-5's are not much more

well 2nd went in my car and when i took it to the trans shop they opened it and none of the gears really looked to healthy + the cluster gear was messed up and they said to fix that one it would be in the ball park of 1,200 but i went and bought a rebuilt wc t-5 for 600 and it had an upgraded cluster gear it in =)

like stated above a rebuild is about 1200$, however people tend to forget that i'll do it for less than 750 shipped (as long as it doesn't need "hard parts")
