Should my powersteering pump be makeing a whinning noise when you put a long screwdriver to it? It is on a 302.

I have some sort of low pitch whinning noise coming from the front of my engine compartment. I ran it with the belt off & it didn't make that noise. I replaced the clutch fan, belt, tensioner pulley &alternator. I put a screwdriver to all accessories while I reved it up to about 2K-3K rpm's & the only one that was whinning more than the other's was the power streering pump. So any help would be GREAT cuz it's driving me crazy!!!

Pretty much all ford PS pumps whine like a ****. Even if you get a new, itll probably whine worse than what you got on there now.
My pump doesnt whine at all, but of course I still have the ORIGINAL PS fluid in there. It literally looks like mud, its brown......lol

Can I run a shorter belt to bypass the smog pump & power steering pump?
