Default RE: who has painted a car?

your using to much thinner!!! try a different ratio and it might be a lil blotchie on the first coat
hopefully you ddint mix the whole gallon..
try 1:1/2 of the the thinner 1 part paint 1/2 part thinner and primer is easy its alil harder with paint
just mix a lil and spray an old fender or something you can practice on first
If its napa paint junk it and go get something else i hate napa paint its hard to spray and doesnt look to good(just my opinion)
i paint like this
mix paint thinner-paint-hardener per instructions
get all hard spots first like inside where the fog lights go anywhere it be tuff to get cuss if you paint the car and then try and spray over these spots you will run the paint where you just sprayed on the body of the car
rember one coat at a time if you miss something get it on the next coat dont try and go back and "fix" a spot you missed you will run the paint
gonna have to put more than one coat on it anyway just wait till the next coat.
spray a coat wait 20-30 minutes spray a coat wait 20-30 minutes spray a coat wait 20-30 minutes
thats just the way i do it good luck
one more thing you can adjust the gun get a good spray pattern going on with the gun.....

Flash time between most coats of base is 5-10 minutes. Depending on temperuture of shop. "John Deer" paint. That sounds like acrylic enamel to me. Better double check what you got there.

By the time you have made one complete pass around the entire car the paint should be tacking. Depending on the manufacturer, wait about 30 minutes and go for the second pass, etc. If you wait too long the paint willlift the earlier coats, if you paint too soon it will run. Dont worry about coverage, it will come with time, if you try to cover in one pass it WILL run and or sag.

Follow the manufacturers recomended mix ratios! Only the maker of the paint knows the viscosity of the paint they sell and how much reducer to add to get the right ratio! Do not use laquer thinner unless the can says to add it! Laquer thinner is for gun cleaning only! Use the recomended reducer for that particular paint and for the temperature you are spraying at! If it is cold you want a faster evaperating reducer than if it were warm! Laquer thinner evaperates from the paint too quickly and will make your finish uneven and blotchy! The directions are on the can for a reason!!
