Default 351 Cleveland in 1990 GT!

I have a chance to get my hands on a 1971 351 Cleveland with 4V heads on it. All it would need is to be freshend up (rings, bearings, etc.) And they are supposed to be pretty stout from the factory. I could just put on a good aftermarket intake and bigger cam and have a pretty serious engine right?! If any one has any ideas or opionion's let me know. Or if you are really smart on the Cleveland and performance mods let me know. Thanks!

Clevelands can make some serious horsepower, make sure you read up on oiling mods as that is a semi weak point of the mortor...

I think a 4v 351c would be a sick motor to start a project with.

There is a reason why the 351c 4v was beatin the big block cars back in the day u know, just gotta get the good closed chamber heads and make sure they have been gone through for unleaded.

Im building a 302 with 2v cleveland heads. I know several guys who put mild street cams and roller rockers and lifters with a good exhaust and make 500+ crank hp with a otherwise stock engine. Oiling and cyclinder walls are the majorweak points of the cleveland engine. Have it sleeved. then comes the valve guides due to their canted valves they will eat up stock valve guilds so you need to have some good guides installed. all in all man I say

GO FOR IT!!

There is a reason cars with cleveland style heads have to weigh as much as big block cars to compete in NMRA AND NHRA!

If it's built right, oiling etc, a decent hyd or hyd roller cam with some roller rockers and a good intake/exhaust/carb will make for a very potent engine. The Cleveland was developed by Ford after the Boss 302's, it was the culmination of cylinder head design Ford had experimented with through the 60's, and proved to be a VERY powerful engine. But alas, it wasn't meant to be as the fuel crisis of the early 70's killed this potential powerhouse.
