331 balancer and flywheel

331 balancer and flywheel
My block is going to the machine shop in the next few weeks to be cut for the .030" over pistons as well as block notching if need be. He is also going to balance the assembly if I bring him the flywheel, crank, and balancer. I am at a loss for which balancer and which flywheel I should be getting. I have heard I can use the same spec flywheel that came off the 302, but I'm looking for input on other options, but as far as the balancer, I don't have the slightest clue.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

RE: 331 balancer and flywheel
I assume you are buying an aftermarket crank that has to be balanced. If so then yes, all of your 50.5oz stuff will work. it may cost more but would be easier in the long run because everything will bolt up as it was the stock crank in the block.

Not to hijack your thread here but ... Have you taken that 331 of yours to the track or dyno? If so post some numbers or pm me with them. I went by the machine shop today and watched the guy cut 6 holes outta 8 30 over. Fixin to assemble a 331 myself.

If he bought an unbalanced kit, he has the option to balnce it any way he wants. There is three choices. 28, 50 or you could go with a neutral balance (0). I have been told that internal or neutral balance was the way to make the strokers last in a stock block.

RE: 331 balancer and flywheel
yeah neutral balance is best, but 28oz or 50 is ok...... i would grab a new balancer at the least since the rubber on the original balancer is most certainly due to be replaced. the professional products balancers have a removable weight so you can make it 28/50/zero
