Default Weird noise from engine?

Hey guys, lately my car has been making a sort of squeeling noise from the engine when my rpm's are above 2500......the sound seems to get worse if i accelerate to say 4000 and let off the throttle....thats when i really notice it, but that could be because when im accelerating my exhaust is loud....it does it no matter how fast i accelerate. the noise also seems to come and go....any ideas on what i can check?

Do as BADASS said, and take the belt off temporarily and start the engine to eliminate any internal engine noises. If the noise goes away, it's in the accessories. Not just the alternator, but the water pump, smog pump, power steering pump, or A/C compressor.

And don't worry, running the engine for a short period of time without the belt won't hurt it neither.

Here's the way I routed mine...(below)

I used an 84 1/4" belt...was really tight needed to walk the belt on to get it to fit but even after all that i took a tensioner gauge to it and was still as tight as an old belt would be, but tight enugh so that it wouldn't squeak anymore after having a longer belt on. You can try an 84 1/2" belt so you can get it on and off by yourself. My tensioner is probably wore too, but you never know until you try.

cool thanks....the way i have mine routed right now it goes to the water pump before the tentioner then to the alt.......this way looks alot better! im going to go buy a new belt tonight and ill see how it goes. if i upgrade my alt. do i need to upgrade anything else in order to handle the extra amps? i still want to know how to test for a bad fan clutch....spin fan id assume?
