Alright the 88 hatch won't stop rattling, if i adjust the stricker down, i have to slam it so hard it shakes the other mustangs rattle, i don't understand why it won't stop rattling

could be because the previous owner was slammin 1000 watts of bass back there, check everything. all the mounting bolts, all the hinges(for cracks and bends), check it all. make sure the latch that holds the striker isn't broken. whatever the reason is, it can be fixed, its just a matter of finding it.

bad weatherstripping possibly? maybe your weatherstripping might be all rotted out to where the seal isn't very tight?

I have had that problem. Here are two solutions that worked for me. First check the two bump stops. They adjust up and down are are located in the hatch area inside the car. Second, check the plastic sleeve that surrounds the striker bolt. If it is worn or broken, the latch will shake around the bolt. Hope that helps.

50resto sells a 'hatch resto kit'. weather stripping, striker cover thing, and the 2 gas lifters. it stopped mine from rattling and it lifts like new now (no leaks either )

^^^ thats probably it right there, lol. i totally forgot about the plastic piece on the striker bolt. thats what causedmy last 5.0 hatch to rattle.

replaced plastic thing, new weather strip, and new gas shocks, i've diddled the little bumper, and how can my hinges be messed up
