As long as the valves are in good shape they should be alright, springs depends on cam. Beefier cam needs beefier springs. A good alternative for springs is Comp's new Beehives pn 26986-16 for a set of 16, about $215 at Jeg's. 123lbs seat at 1.750 and 284lbs open at 1.175, and they do the samework of a dual spring setup with a heavier spring rate. A good choice if you use pedestal rockers, since the easier spring rate puts less stress on the capscrew holding the rocker down, but will still handle prettydecent hyd roller cams. A good standard dual spring will work as well

Hard to say, there's no garuntee the springs are stock, and if they are that they're still in good shape/strong enough without knowing the springrate of the actual springs in it. Going to 1.7 rockers on a cam that has lift ratings at the valve for 1.6 is going to increase the load on the vale springs and could cause float. I had someone rebuild an engine for me about a year and a half ago, and they used weak springs and it floated the valves(then I switched to Beehives and the problem ceased), end of the road, a year and a half later I'm rebuilding the engine because the needle bearing in a roller lifter came apart, prolly damaged by the floating. If you're sticking a cam in it you might as well get some springs for it as well and change them since the heads are gonna be off if you're swapping them. Or at the very least check the spring pressures to make sure they'll work.

no

while the heads are out, rent the tool at autozone free, valve spring compressor. get some springs(16) /package that are good to a .550 lift min, you dont want valve float in the upper rpms
