Not necessarily. But that would depend on what you want to change too. What mopds did you have in mind?

Its not true but its definitly recommended. I have an 87 and I have small camshaft in it and a intake manifold as well as full exhaust. Now due to the camshaft my car has a slight surge at idle but an idle plate and restriction in the map sensor vacuum line have made it pretty steady.

speed density is ok. what do you wanna do to your car? imean... you can make a SD car run 12s... but for some mods-mainly larger cams, maf is needed

Ya the previous owner did a bunch of mods including an E303 cam to my car that I have now and it doesn't run right at all, switch to MAF like me.

I switched to maf on my 87 because it was easier for me to get it tuned that way

You either have to switch to MAF, or if you keep SD you need to make sure the car will idle well(decent idle cam, no big intakes etc, have to have good idle vac, no vac fluxuations) and if you change anything on SD you have to retune the computer(if it changes theVE of the engine significantly)to get best performancesince the lookup tables in it are based on the engine as it came from the factory. Just switch to MAF, be WAY easier in the long run and make tuning/performance options much less of a hastle. Or run a carb

I don't think the E303 will work with the SD very well. It won't idle quite right.
