351w supercharger vs compression
i have a carbed 10.8:1 351w with afr 185 heads, victor jr intake, 4150 hp 750mc sec carb.
i am thinking about changing out the pistons and cam to make it a 8.5-9:1 motor and putting a paxton 10psi blowthrough supercharger on it. do you think the gains would be worth my while? im not sure how much hp id gainwith a lower compression engine with a blower.
i only est. about a 50hp gain if that, but i could be wrong? is there anyone out there running a similer setup? btw this needs to stay a 93 pump gas motor.

RE: 351w supercharger vs compression
i already have weisco forged racing pistons and eagle h-beam rods. my bottom end less then 200miles on it and it is 100% right now. the question is weather or not id gain enough power to make it worth while if i add a supercharger.
lets say i push 350 to the wheels right now at 10.8:1. a 9.0:1 mite make ~300? if i add the supercharger will i at least make 400+? the cost or a turbo or supercharger is ~$5,500 top to bottom install price. if im only going to pick up 10hp id rather not waist the money and ill just add juice. but i want the power to be there all the time, and i mite still add juice later.
so where do you guys think ill land at hp wise with a 10psi supercharger?

RE: 351w supercharger vs compression
what is confusing me is a supercharger or turbo in the long run just adds compression to your engine. if you have to take out compression just to add it back in with a blower/turbo, will i pick up any power.

RE: 351w supercharger vs compression
Ideal compression for S/C or Turbos is around 9:1 or as high as 9:5:1. There are some that will not run higher than 8:5:1, the addition of boost to the cylinders can move the flame center and cause detonation. Another thing that causes detonation is addition of heat to the cylinder causing pre-combustion. Naturally S/C and Turbo's add a lot of heat to the cylinders, even with pre-cooling charge air. So high compression is dangerous at best to the life of your components. To put it simple.

??? wtf did that come from. read the first post. i will drop my compression to add boost, if i can make more power then i have now. the question was weather or not i would make more power.

Yes you will add more power. You don't need to get nasty, I was giving you information. Drop compression to add boost and you will see much more gain with S/C or turbo than with a high compression naturally aspirated motor.
