my alternator whines when it gets a load put on it. Is that normal. I dont have a big stereo so thats not the problem. It also does this after the engine has been warmed and i have been beating on it. any ideas would be great.

my 98 did that alot and the alt bearing was shot. i replaced it and it was fine after that. when my alt went out on my current 89 there was no noise or anything just the voltage reg. went out on it. i dunno i would put a long screwdriver on the alt and put your ear to it.....make sure thats what is making that noise. sometimes is the idle pully making the noise and not the alt.

it sounds like the noise in your speakers when you have bad ground, but it comes from the engine bay and its really audible when the lights are on.

you sure its the alt??? do you have the pollution pump removed? it could be a vac leak possibly

If it is for sure your alternator don't replace it with the stock one, do the 3g conversion! It's waaay better than the stock one. You can also do the3g for half the price of a new 75 amp[:'(]alternator.
