3G alternator

What year mustang do I need to get one from? I want to do a swap on my stang but not sure what year I have to look for. Also does it have to be a V8 or can it off a V6?

RE: 3G alternator

IIRC, 94-95 5.0l and 3.8l 3g alternators will work, and the 96-04 3.8l 3g alternator will work (can't use the alternator off of the 4.6). My 3G gets here tomorrow, I got it off of Ebay for like $45 :D. Ebay always has good deals on the 3g alternators.

The 96-04 3.8l alternator is the same as the 94-95 5.0 alternator? Do they bolt right up or do I need to make some modifications?

You will need togrind the bracket slightly, but not much. Yeah, the 96-04 3.8l motors have the 3g alternators that you can use. Just don't get the 4.6 alternator, I'm 99.9999% sure that it will not work.

I got mine from a local pick and pull for 20 bucks. Came off a 97 V6 with 97000 miles.

The local yard around my area wanted $50, so I opted for Ebay.

RE: 3G alternator

im thinkin about doing this because i have a really really really slow battery drain that i cant find and neither can any of my local mechanics. So i figure if i get a bigger alternator, it will charge it up more and be fine.
