I have 8 grand for mustang, ADVICE PLEASE
I have about eight thousand bucks for an early nineties fox body... my original idea was to find a well kept up one and stick a crate motor into it and possibly a new tranny... Any advice oppinions or thoughts are welcome. Tell me what you would do because I know you know more than me....

Find a good high/low mileage 89, so that you can have tilt and no air bags, AND mass air flow. Find one with minimum mods, very minimal. You could probably find one for like $3000 US. Then get a T-56 conversion kit $2500. Then use the rest of the $2500 for a mild 306 rebuild including all the necessary parts needed ie; fuel pump injectors, etc, and then throw gear in it. You'll have to save up then later to work on the suspension so it can hook up. That's something along the lines of what I would do in your situation, because I want a manual but want one to handle some real power I would plan on putting threw, via a built turbo motor...

ya i'd build me up a 331 stroker with a t56... and i might look into buying one with a blown motor, or what not... as long as its clean inside out... then put some 3.73's in there and you would be set up... all for under or around 8k

I'm partial naturally to my '88, but look for a '89-'92 model year LX hatch back, ligher than the GT or vert and more useful than the LX notch IMO. After '92 the piston aren't forged, but that won't matter if you go with a crate motor. personally, I'm an automatic guy and you can get some really good upgraded AOD's for under $2,000 if you look around, try www.lentechautomatics.com
a 340 HP crate would be good but you'll need a rear gear like a 3.73 or 4.10 to really get the bang out of it and some suspension mods to make it hook the rear tires too. I'd look for one that an older driver had who didn't do lots of mods, it's probably not as beat up as one some young guy had who rode it hard and put it up wet! LOL
