AHH i messed up!!!!
i tried to paint my car and BIGGLY messed up. so i have to sand her back down smooth and primer her again. then im gonna have my dad paint it.. but i was wondering how long it takes for paint to dry. my dad says couple weeks for it to cure completey so i can sand it. i cant sand it now because it just comes off way to easy. almost like i can wipe it away. is a few weeks how long it will take?

RE: AHH i messed up!!!!
yeah bad deal. i had some weird paint. i searched and searched the interenet for this kind and even called a few shops and nothing. the color is hitachi taxi cab yellow and the brand is john deere. i looked and i cant find anything. the paint guy said to mix it 1:1 with basemaker. did it and came out junk. read the directions and it says mix 1:10 paint thinner. tried ti with laquer thinner (not on the car) and it came out better. so im gonna get real paint thinenr and have my dad do it. but its still kinda tacky. when i touch it my finger print is still on it.

Yep, still wet. Sorry it did not turn out for you. Keep trying, you will get it. Get an old hood and practice on that till you get the technique down. It takes time and patience. Good luck my friend.

unless you are using laquer paint...don't paint it yourself...those two pack paints and hardeners are extremely poisonous...isocyanite is deadly.....you have to use an air fed respirator...not a cheap mask.

you definately need somethin to practice on a lot before taking on a project like that. a lot of practice! take it from me, i work professionally in a body shop doin body and painting, and have been for almost seven years now, and that old saying practice makes perfect is true, and by no means am i perfect! i still screw up on occasion! but ya live and learn! as for dry to sand times, a day should be enough. and some more advice, dont use the $36 a gal stuff. its only gonna bite you in the end. i use only ppg but dupont is another good brand. i dont know what your budget is, but youre car will look so much better with better paint as long as it is applied right. ppg makes a great single stage called concept, which is like your enamel, but a urethane based paint, that is an awesome paint! hold up real well to time and has a great shine!! you can get a gal of it from $200 and up depending on what color it is, plus hardener and reducer. ppg also makes a cheapern single stage paint called omni that about half price, looks good but doesnt hold up as well as the concept i mentioned earlier. so theres my two cents
