Default boosting

ok. i am planning ahead for the need for more power. i got a 331 that should put out around 425-450 hp give or take. it should have around a 10.2 to 10.3:1 compression ratio. would i be able to put on a turbo or s/c on it and still run 93 pump gas? i shouldnt need more than 6-7lbs of boost.

I don't like the idea of running a lot of boost above 10:1. But I guess 6 PSI isn't too much. My other concern would be putting too much HP on the block / tranny. You're getting close to the limits. But you should be able to do it on 93 octane with a good tune.

6-7 psi will be ok as long as you have intercooler and good tune.

would the intercooler be manditory? but i guess it would be alot safer. i would be tweecing for the tune. i want to get right around that 500hp mark and thats it.

intcooler would help A LOT.
You can get them off ebay for like $300, then just run some custom piping to it.

Procharger says you can run 9psi on their intercooled set-up
with 10-1 compression.

For levels that low, it's not mandatory. But it will help a great deal if you are running a higher compression. In a setup like yours, I'd try running water / methanol injecton (checmical intercooling.) That will cool the air and will also ever so slightly boost your octane rating of your fuel when running under boost.

For 6 PSI, plan on gaining 60 - 70 rwhp over what you have now. Take that into account when you figure your HP numbers. That's why I think you may be getting close to the limit. Cooling the air is almost a double edged sword. It helps prevent detonation and can save your engine. But on the other hand, the air becomes slightly more dense and thus produces more HP.

Even if you do go with an intercooler or methanol injection... I'd still retard the timing just to be safe. But again, that will all be worked out in the tune.

ohhhh, thats 450 BHP? I thought you meant 450 RWHP. Yeah, you'll be fine with 450 BHP. The danger mark is around and above 450 RWHP.
